a looter disguised as a firefighter arrested in Los Angeles

A man was arrested in Malibu this Saturday, January 11, after being caught stealing. Disguised as a firefighter, he stole objects abandoned by the owners of houses ravaged by flames.

It happens that, in the worst moments of history, some people take advantage of the misfortune of others. This is precisely the case in California (United States) since Tuesday January 7 and the start of the violent forest fires, report the daily Los Angeles Times and the 24-hour news channel Fox News.

A sad reality that motivated a man to disguise himself as a firefighter to loot the rubble of burned houses in Malibu without attracting attention.

29 people arrested

While the images reaching us from the other side of the Atlantic depict scenes of “apocalypse”, the looters in the affected region are organizing themselves. Day and night, sometimes defying curfews established by local authorities, these criminals empty homes reduced to ashes of objects of all kinds.

“I saw a gentleman who looked like a firefighter. And I asked him if he was okay because he was sitting. I didn't know that we had handcuffed him,” confides Robert Luna, sheriff of the county of Los Angeles, with the Fox News teams.

The man had just been arrested by the police even though he was trying, this Saturday, January 11, to loot an abandoned house. The uniform thus allows him to legitimize his presence on the premises beyond the curfew put in place with the aim, precisely, of preventing malicious acts.

Since January 7, “(…) these are therefore problems that (the) front-line deputies and (the) police officers are facing”, added Robert Luna on Fow News.

In total in California, 29 people were arrested while participating in the looting of private property.
