A woman and her two daughters died Monday in a fire in their home in Wingles (Pas-de-Calais), which also injured two other children in the family, the mayor told AFP.
Two boys, aged around 11 and 12, got out of the house with the help of a neighbor, said Mayor Sébastien Messent.
Evacuated “in relative urgency”, according to an officer from the departmental fire and rescue operational center (Codis), they were hospitalized in Lens.
The 37-year-old mother, a 9-year-old daughter and another 16-year-old could not be saved. The father had already left for work at the time of the incident.
The fire, which broke out shortly after 4 a.m., was brought under control shortly after 8 a.m.
“It will be up to the police investigation to determine the causes of the fire,” said the mayor.
Around fifty firefighters were deployed, according to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service.
