Three people from the same family, a mother and two children, died in the fire at the family home in Wingles in Pas-de-Calais. Two boys were rescued and hospitalized in relative emergency.
A terrible house fire claimed the lives of three people from the same family on Monday January 13, around 4:30 a.m., in a housing estate in Wingles in Pas-de-Calais. According to BFM Grand Lille, the three victims are a mother and two of her children. Two young boys, the victim's sons aged 11 and 12, were saved by a neighbor. They were treated in relative emergency and transferred to Lens hospital by the firefighters. According to The Voice of the Norththe two children who died with their mother in the fire are two young girls aged 9 and 16. The mother was 37 years old.
Sébastien Messent, mayor of Wingles, present at the scene of the fire, reacted to The Voice of the North : “A neighbor told me he had taken the two boys out. He heard a bang and he took a ladder to get them out through a first floor window.”
35 firefighters mobilized to put out the fire
A major intervention system was put in place: 35 firefighters and three hoses were mobilized to put out the fire, which was brought under control and contained 2.5 hours after the first flames were reported. The electricity had been cut throughout the neighborhood. A municipal room was opened urgently and made available to local residents who could not return to their homes immediately.
The origin of the fire is currently unknown. An investigation was opened to understand the circumstances of the tragedy and the judicial police were contacted.
