First title of the Flick era with a rout against Madrid

The Hansi Flick era already has its first title: the Supercopa de España against Real Madrid. A dominant Barça, displaying an hour of excellent and another half-hour showing resilience after a red card to the somewhat out-of-touch Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny, overwhelmed Ancelotti’s team with a stunning advantage. In a week that has been extremely complicated for the club and its president, Joan Laporta, in the crosshairs of all sporting bodies, from LaLiga led by Madrid with its ultra-right past, Javier Tebas, to the Spanish Football Federation, Barcelona’s confused opposition led by Víctor Font and the media from with both sides eager to end Laporta’s reign, football has proven to be capricious, and the players Barça delivered their president an epic victory that will go down in history.

Barcelona finished the competition in Saudi Arabia with distinction, and the new generation from La Masia showed that the beginning of the season was not just a dream. Just like the 0-4 defeat at the Bernabéu last October, which enchanted with the efficiency of a group of young players who could have stunned Vinícius, Mbappé, Rodrygo, Courtois and that army of expensive signings. The club has discovered a generation of players with talent that rivals legends such as Xavi, Iniesta, Piqué, Puyol, Sergio Busquets and many others who have formed the legendary team since 2005. Perhaps only Leo Messi could stand out at the same age as today’s legion of stars.

There is a coach, there is a team and there is a future. It is crucial that this time the focus is on winning titles and not on the ongoing internal fights within the club.

Players such as Lamine Yamal and Cubarsí at the age of 17, 20-year-olds Fermín and Gavi, 21-year-old Marc Casadó and 22-year-old Pedri must give great confidence to the club. Hansi Flick gave the team the maturity the players needed, adopting a bold and bold style of play, creating a team atmosphere that is difficult to achieve, where this group of young players combines perfectly with players in the twilight of their careers such as Íñigo Martínez (33) and Robert Lewandowski (36), as well as a 34-year-old Polish goalkeeper.

Football pundits will write the match report, but for Real Madrid to concede nine goals in two games while scoring just two, illustrates the difference between the two teams. This Sunday, Barça could have added to the score with a scandalous defeat if a well-deserved red card for Szczęsny had been followed by second yellow cards for Camavinga and Vinícius, who also deserved a disqualification, which the referee ignored. However, it matters little at this point; what is important is Barça’s victory against all odds, once again proving a resilience in the face of difficulties that should fill Barcelona fans with great pride. Congratulations!
