The young Cutter Gauthier was expected yesterday in Philadelphia. Remember that the 5th overall pick in the 2022 draft quickly gave up on a career with the Flyers, requesting a transaction that sent him to the Anaheim Ducks a year ago. It was therefore a hostile crowd that awaited him yesterday for his first match at Philly which ended with a 6-0 victory for the Flyers.
From the first presence of the young American, the supporters were heard chanting “F*uck you Cutter”. The table was set for the rest of the meeting. Did this atmosphere provide energy to the Flyers, en route to one of their great victories of the season? It’s not impossible.
John Tortorella seems to have had enough of the Cutter Gauthier file. Even after his team’s brilliant performance, the Flyers head coach seemed irritated at the press conference. First asked about the possibility that the situation had helped his team perform, he replied that he thought it was bullshit.
He went on to say that all dramait was for journalists. Tortorella says the only message he gave to his team was “Let’s take care of ourselves and play a hockey game, especially with how poorly we played in the last few games.”
A little later, when asked about the noisy crowd, the fiery coach replied that he hoped his players could “play in front of a crowd like that in a context that means something, not the nonsense you are talking about”. Visibly irritated, Tortorella continued by specifying that he would like such an atmosphere in a playoff match, for example, not this “shit”.
