Sherborne School Jeddah is a new British curriculum school opening in August 2025 in the Ar Rawdah district.

The story so far…

Sherborne School Jeddah (SSJ) is a new school due to open in Jeddah in time for the 2025-26 academic year. It is being set up in a joint venture between Saudi-based Maarif Education ( which already operates nine schools in KSA, offering both national and international curricula) and Al Sharaka Holdings, a Qatari company which operates the first overseas Sherborne School in Doha, which opened in 2009.

The new school will initially open for children aged 3 to 13 years, mirroring the Prep School in the UK, expanding to offer full Pre-primary to Sixth Form provision.

Sherborne Schools UK, which is located in Dorset on the southwest coast of England, was established in 1550, offering an all-boys senior boarding school, whilst the separate Sherborne Girls School, established n 1899,  also delivers a full-boarding education.  The Prep School is co-educational and educates children from 3 to 13 years of age.  The Jeddah school is expected to be academically selective with class sizes set at 20 students.

Sherborne School Jeddah is led by Mr. Joe Paget, who was educated at Eton College, the University of Bristol, and Canterbury Christ Church University. Mr. Paget brings leadership experience from schools across the UK, South America, Europe, and Asia. He was latterly Head of Prep School at St. Catherine’s British School, Athens.

According to the school website, Sherborne School Jeddah’s teachers are British-trained, highly qualified educators who will bring a wealth of expertise and global perspectives to the classroom.

What about the curriculum?

As would be expected, Sherborne School Jeddah will offer an enriched National Curriculum for England. As they enter the Senior school, students will work towards internationally recognised qualifications, including IGCSEs and A-Levels, opening pathways to leading universities worldwide.

Core Focus Areas will include Critical thinking, developing analytical and creative problem-solving abilities, Global perspectives, encouraging cultural understanding while celebrating heritage and Adaptability, equipping pupils to thrive in a fast-changing world.

By integrating modern teaching methods with cultural relevance, the team at SSJ intend to ensure that each student thrives both academically and personally, contributing meaningfully to society, and reflecting the aspirations of the Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

In addition to academic subjects, the school will also offer music, art, drama, technology and sport.

Co-curricular opportunities in arts, sports, and innovation are designed to ensure students receive a holistic education that balances academic achievement with personal growth.

What about the facilities?

The school is set in a modern facility, which will offer  eight cutting-edge laboratories and specialist provision for Robotics, AI labs, 3D printing studios, and media production hubs.  The school will also offer fully equipped music and drama departments, a black-box theatre, and 500-seat auditorium.

Sports facilities will include an indoor swimming pool, multi-purpose sports halls, tennis and basketball courts, and a martial arts dojo.
