Lewis Miley impresses while unexpected 8/10 star shines

Newcastle Untied extended their winning run to eight in all competitions after dispatching Bromley.

The Magpies have put themselves into the hat for the fourth round of the FA Cup as they search for their first silverware since 1969.

There was no fairytale return for former Newcastle goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman either despite Bromley taking the lead after eight minutes.

Lewis Miley levelled the tie with a stunning strike after 16 minutes before an Anthony Gordon penalty gave Newcastle the control in the second-half.

Eddie Howe’s side dominated the second period with William Osula’s first goal since signing in the summer all but confirming victory.

Here are the ratings for the Magpies win at St James’ Park.

It looked as if Dubravka was off to Saudi Arabia earlier in the week but was given the nod for Sunday’s game. You could argue he should’ve done better for Bromley’s goal – he was kept quiet otherwise.

A solid defensive performance as he took the captians armband once again. Wasn’t entirely to blame for Bromley’s goal despite losing a duel in the build-up. Helped keep the League Two side quiet and made the odd intereception.

Slotted back into his position nicely after two games out with suspension. The Swiss international did his job to keep Bromley’s goal tally down to one. His long passing to the wings was admirable.

Failed to close Bromley man Congreve down before his goal and looked apprensive throughout the first-half. A quiet second-half with very little to do.

A promising performance despite an early wobble, was nowehere to be seen as Bromley came charging up his flank.

The 29-year-old recovered to bag an assist for Miley’s goal, cleverly won a penalty and looked a constant threat supporting Barnes and Gordon in the final third. Nearly bagged his first Newcastle goal with a deflected effort.

Another man who allowed Bromley to score the opener. He needed to impress after his contract extension was triggered but failed to make his mark. Helped during Newcastle’s build-up play at times.

Taken off at half time after a quiet performance. The Brazilian avoided a fifth yellow card in six games as a result but didn’t make an impact on the game. Completed 31 of his 33 pass attempts.

It was Miley’s first start for the Magpies since February 2024, but he certainly made the most of it. The 18-year-old endured a difficult start, losing a duel which would lead to Bromley’s opener.

He levelled the tie eight minutes later with a stunning strike from 25 yards. With Guimaraes and Tonali benched for the game, he proved that he can do a job in their absence.

Had an effort blocked before the break but didn’t make the most of his fourth start of the season. He looked lost at times while others around him thrived.

Far too many wayward runs and passes which are sure to have annoyed Howe.

A rare start for Barnes but a welcome one. He troubled Bromley’s back line at times and had a hand in Miley’s goal before being taken off at half time.

It was a massive opportunity for Osula to show Howe what he’s capable of – thankfully, he delivered.

A quiet first-half before scoring his first Newcastle goal with a stunning strike just after the hour mark before being taken off after 68 minutes. Here’s hoping that’s the first of many for the 21-year-old.

Came on and solidified the Magpies midfield in the second-half. Made his mark on the game by assisting Newcastle’s third.

Had a lot of freedom to play up on the left hand side. Nearly added to Newcastle’s goal tally shortly after coming on.

Trevan Sanusi – 6

His first competitive appearance for Newcastle, the youngster looked nervous but did enough to warrant an appearance in the future.
