Our first home game of 2025 and a chance to move into the fourth round of the FA Cup, as Newcastle United take on Bromley at St James’ Park.
Here’s the side Eddie Howe has gone with ahead of today’s 3pm kick-off against Andy Woodman’s League Two side.
Newcastle XI: Dubravka – Trippier, Schär, Kelly, Targett – Miley, Longstaff, Joelinton – Almiron, Osula, Barnes.
SUBS: Vlachodimos, Tonali, Gordon, Hall, Livramento, Burn, A Murphy, Bruno, Sanusi
It’s no surprise to see wholesale changes, with Livramento, Botman, Burn, Hall, Tonali, Willock, Murphy, Isak and Gordon replaced by Trippier, Schar, Kelly, Targett, Longstaff, Lewis Miley, Almiron, Barnes and Osula
There’s also a few youngsters in the squad, with Trevan Sanusi and Alex Murphy named on the bench along with Bruno, Gordon, Tonali and Vlachodimos.
As expected, Isak and Botman are rested after picking up niggles in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Arsenal, although both should be fine for next week’s league games against Wolves and Bournemouth.
Speaking ahead of the game, Howe has been full of praise for the FA Cup and what it meant to him growing up, urging his side to put in a professional performance to “get the job done.”
“The FA Cup was the competition when I was growing up and was one of the things that attracted me to football. The knockout competition and the drama that it gave was one of the things that hooked me very early in my life.
“There’s still a magic to it and we’re on the other side going into this game where Bromley will have all the hope and the magic of the cup. We need to make sure we’re really professional and try to get the job done.”
Let’s hope we’re at it and this much-changed side can keep the run going.
Howay the lads!
