She is obviously disappointed. “All three of us wanted the jersey but there was only one place on the top step”. In a three-way battle against Lise Revol and Jeanne Duterne, Lison Desprez had to settle for third place in the French Junior Cyclo-cross Championship, beaten by the usual pair from AS Bike Racing (see ranking). “A place on the podium is still nice because there is a good level. I wouldn’t have said no to the swimsuit but Lise was stronger today”she simply concedes to DirectVeloin a post-race press conference.
This National Championship, the Breton has the feeling of having lost it very early, in reality. “On the first lap, I made a small mistake in a corner, when Lise passed in front. She sped up and I couldn’t keep up. As the laps went by, she then took more and more of a lead”. No longer really in the race for the title, she then tried to fight to the end with Jeanne Duterne, who also always preceded her. “I still believed in it thanks to the Breton public. But I understood that Jeanne was still a little too far away to have time to catch up at the end of the race”.
This bronze medal well sums up the season for Lison Desprez, who remained in eight places of 2 or 3 during her last eight outings, although she had also won no less than three rounds of the Coupe de France in November. “I’m subscribed to places 2 and 3. I don’t often win, I’m regularly missing a little something. It’s still cool to find yourself in a solid generation. I leave the Championship with a silver medal in the relay and a bronze medal in the Championship, which is nice. To beat Lise, it was « hot » anyway (laughs). She was very strong”.
