Second-year newcomer Cas Van Looke scores the second Belgian title in a row, competitor defeated by ultimate bad luck
Dramatic denouement of the Cyclocross Championships for the second-year newcomers. After a titanic duel, Cas Van Looke and Emiel Osaer seemed to be sprinting for victory in Zolder, until the accident struck Osaer mercilessly. His chain sputtered in the deep slot, forcing him to walk to the finish with his bike in his hand. Belgian title gone, which went to Van Looke.
Emiel Osaer started the opening round energetically, co-favorite Cas Van Looke had to grit his teeth to close the gap at the end of round one.
The two of them had left, behind them what was especially noticeable were the many falls in the famous dive down. After a mistake on the steps in round two, Osaer also lost his rhythm for a moment, but Van Looke was unable to take advantage.
And even when the bell rang for the final round, the duo was still inseparable. Until bad luck threw a spanner in the works of perhaps the first sprint for the title at this Belgian Championship.
Osaer’s chain sputtered on the steps in the deep castle. He had to let Van Looke drive and shuffled towards the finish with the bike in his hand. What bad luck for the unfortunate Osaer.
Van Looke still had plenty of time to celebrate his second Belgian title in a row. Last year he also won among the first-year newcomers.
The verdict for Osaer? A distant 16th place, after one rider after another passed him due to his ultimate moment of bad luck.
