Attila Szalai will be loaned to the Standard Liege team in the Belgian top football league (Jupiler Ligue) until the end of the season. The Hungarian national team defender, who turned 27 on January 20, is coming to Belgium from the German first-class team Hoffenheim, according to a statement published on the Belgian club’s official website.

The interior defender, who played 46 times for the national team, previously played for Rapid Wien, Mezőkövesd, Cyprus’ Apollon Limassol, Turkey’s Fenerbahce, Bundesliga’s Hoffenheim, and then on loan at Freiburg, also in the German top flight.

In the 2024-2025 season, Attila Szalai has not played a game at all, so the German club definitely wanted to loan him out in view of the player’s already decreasing market value. Standard Liege was suggested as a possible option earlier this week courtesy of Belgian transfer insider Sacha Tavolieri.

Standard Liege has played 21 league matches this season and is currently 7th in the table with 28 points. He has previously won the Belgian championship 10 times.
