A wave of criticism targets an American actress who compared Los Angeles to Gaza

A video clip of the 66-year-old Oscar-winning actress making these statements at a press session went viral.

“I was born and raised in the City of Angels,” Curtis said. “And the whole City of Angels is burning everywhere. The whole city of Plessides is gone. I mean literally the neighborhood I used to live in is gone. My house is still there tonight but I live in a different valley. The whole area looks sad.” “Like Gaza, or one of these war-torn countries where terrible things happened.”

Many X platform users criticized Curtis’s comments for comparing the wealthy Los Angeles area to war-torn Gaza.

“This is an absolutely terrible comparison,” one wrote.

Another wrote: “I live in California and you will not find me comparing these fires to Gaza. Both tragedies but not comparable at all.”

Another responded: “This comparison is inappropriate and lacks sensitivity to the actual experiences of those living in war-torn areas.”

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office in the US state of California confirmed that the death toll from the devastating fires in the area had risen to 16 people.

The Forensic Medicine Authority stated in a statement, on Saturday evening, that the total number of confirmed deaths is 16 victims, and the cases are still under examination.
