Conor McGregor calls for Mackenzie Dern vs. Amanda Ribas trilogy after UFC Vegas 101 ends in nasty armbar

Conor McGregor wants to see Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas handle unfinished business after UFC Vegas 101.

UFC strawweight contenders Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas rang in the new year with a bang at UFC Vegas 101. It was a technical battle for as long as the fight lasted before Dern eventually transitioned to an armbar to tap out Ribas in the closing seconds of Round 3.

Dern’s win was six years in the making after Ribas defeated her by unanimous decision in their first matchup in Oct. 2019. Both strawweights evolved since their first matchup, but once the fight hit the ground, Dern was on another level in her transitions and overall execution.

Many top UFC fighters weighed in on the first main event matchup of 2025. This includes Conor McGregor, who used his post-fight praise to make the case for a third fight between Dern and Ribas.

Conor McGregor calls for Mackenzie Dern/Amanda Ribas 3

In a post-fight tweet, McGregor endorsed Dern vs. Ribas 3 just moments after UFC Vegas 101.

“Great fight! Awesome showcase!” McGregor tweeted Saturday night. “An excellent rivalry between the two Brazilians!

“So good! 1 a piece now, I would definitely love to see this trilogy!”

McGregor is working towards a potential UFC comeback by the end of the year, possibly in a rebooking with Michael Chandler. He was slated to face Chandler in the UFC 303 last June before withdrawing due to a toe injury.

After getting revenge over Ribas, Dern is firmly in the strawweight title picture as she inches closer to a shot at the title. UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili will face Tatiana Suarez in the UFC 312 co-headliner next month.

Dern’s win at UFC Vegas 101 came after an impressive performance against Loopy Godinez last August. Her current run turns the page on a recent losing skid of defeats in three of her previous four fights in the Octagon.

While the Dern vs. Ribas trilogy likely won’t happen soon, McGregor wants to see it take place at some point in their careers. The two strawweights will likely be in the Top 15 for years to come, making it a high possibility for an eventual trilogy booking.

As for McGregor, he’s reportedly in preliminary talks to face Logan Paul in a boxing match later this year in India. But fight talks have stalled in recent days, and McGregor’s planned return to fighting remains undetermined.
