Serious traffic accident on the highway

There was a serious traffic accident on the A6 motorway towards Thun on Friday night. One person died at the scene of the accident. The highway was closed in both directions. The accident is being investigated.

On Friday, January 10th, shortly after 11:30 p.m., the Bern cantonal police received a report of a serious traffic accident in Muri on the A6 South motorway towards Thun. According to current findings, two drivers were traveling from Bern towards Thun on the A6 South motorway when, for reasons that have yet to be clarified, a collision occurred between the two vehicles.

As a result of the accident, a car was thrown onto its roof. Both vehicles caught fire immediately after the collision. The driver of the car, which was lying on its roof, died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured.

Road temporarily closed

There are clues to the identity of the deceased person. Formal identification is still pending. During the accident and rescue work, the affected section of the motorway had to be completely closed in both directions for around five hours. A detour was signaled.

In addition to various special services from the Bern Cantonal Police, an ambulance team, the Bern Protection and Rescue Fire Department and specialists from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Bern were deployed.
