Gladbach: Choreo against FC Bayern Munich

A few minutes before kick-off against FC Bayern Munich, the anthem “The Soul Burns” was heard as usual in Borussia Park on Saturday evening. Just in time, the Gladbach fans in the north curve stretched their arms upwards, holding, among other things, posters in the club’s colors black, white and green.

A large banner was also rolled out in the lower tier of the north curve. You could see the cathedral on the Abteiberg, Wickrath Castle and Rheydt Castle, each of which rose behind the coats of arms of Mönchengladbach, Wickrath and Rheydt. The background: Mönchengladbach is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. On January 1, 1975, almost exactly 50 years ago, the old independent city of Mönchengladbach merged with the independent city of Rheydt and the municipality of Wickrath (until then the Grevenbroich district).

Gladbach: See the choreo against Bayern in fast motion

“United by the greatest thing in the city,” could be read in the upper tier of the north curve, with the Borussia diamond depicted in the middle. The two teams saw the choreo come onto the pitch, for Gladbach and Bayern the duel was the start of the year after the winter break and the penultimate game of the first half of the season.

The year 2025 is not only special for the city of Mönchengladbach, but also for the club. The club celebrates its 125th birthday on August 1st, which is why President Rainer Bonhof proclaimed it the “Borussia Year”. Around the first weekend in August there will be a friendly match against an opponent who has not yet been announced.

“2025 is an anniversary year for the club, for the city, for the DFB. I hope they send us a nice congratulations card too,” Bonhof said with a wink last year. Until then, Borussia has the opportunity to build on the stable results of the first half of the season.

In terms of sport, 1975 was the most successful year in the club’s history with the third championship title and winning the UEFA Cup. The Bundesliga promotion 60 years ago and the DFB Cup victory 30 ago are also celebrating round anniversaries.
