Two weeks before his 18th birthday, Arthur van den Boer has won himself a new national cyclo-cross title. The junior won the Belgian championship in Zolder after throwing the one year younger Giel Lejeune overboard in the final round.
A Belgian winning streak that seems to never end. Although Arthur van den Boer had his hands full against challenger Giel Lejeune in Heusden-Zolder.
That even forced Van den Boer to chase halfway through the cross. As is typical of Zolder, groups of the juniors also returned to the long asphalt strip again and again. And so the top favorite also closed the gap on Lejeune.
From then on, I decided to take the reins into my own hands. In both the penultimate and the last round, Van den Boer shook the tree in the heavy final, where a difference can certainly be made.
Two minutes from the end, Lejeune had to get off his bike and go uphill, while Van den Boer plowed through the mud, between the snow remains. He was gone, because Lejeune was no longer visible in the mainly descending stretches towards the finish.
Four in a row for Arthur van den Boer, who can wear his trusted Belgian tricolor for another year. After two titles in a row among the novices, he now also has a double among the juniors.
The silver went to Giel Lejeune, Mats Vanden Eynde was third on the podium.
