DORTMUND (dpa-AFX) – Borussia Dortmund Coach Nuri Sahin didn’t want the high level of sickness in his team as an excuse for the three quick goals conceded against Bayer (Bayer share) Accept Leverkusen. “That’s far too easy – even in this constellation in which we will probably never play together again,” said the 36-year-old after the 3-2 defeat in the Bundesliga game on Friday evening.
Six players were missing at short notice due to illness. Sahin only had one trained central defender at his disposal – Bundesliga starting eleven debutant Yannik Lührs. “Totally unusual. It was like a bad joke,” said Sahin about the failures. “I felt like I was getting a message every hour that a player was out.”
Goalkeeper Kobel: “It’s extremely bitter”
Nathan Tella gave Leverkusen the lead after just 25 seconds after Dortmund lost the ball. Patrik Schick was completely free when he scored his two goals in the 8th and 19th minutes. He expects “my boys to defend it better,” said Sahin. For the first time since the beginning of April 2024, Dortmund lost a home game in the Bundesliga.
The Revierclub had a lot of possession against the German champions and the effort was right. But BVB wasn’t dangerous enough on offense. “It’s extremely bitter. In the end we can’t buy anything from it. We have zero points,” said goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Borussia will be challenged again on Tuesday. Then the Revierclub plays against newly promoted Holstein Kiel. “I hope that the boys get healthy again, that we have a few more players available,” said Sahin./the/DP/mis
