Fabregas regretted: “We lacked a bit of maturity” and Baroni: “The team gave everything”

The Spanish coach also spoke about the performances of debutants Butez and Diao and Paz’s condition: “He has a very swollen ankle, it doesn’t look like a good injury unfortunately.” Baroni doesn’t cause drama: “In difficulties the team has shown compactness and solidity.”

Having achieved a draw on a difficult pitch like the “Olimpico”, Cesc Fabregas spoke after the match, commenting on the 1-1 final: “We are a team that creates a lot, doing many things well but which lacks a bit of malice and goals. We are also improving defensively, but we don’t look at the point taken as much as the personality we showed at the Olimpico. Many people play in this way at Lazio who beat us 5-1 in the first leg. I’m happy and proud, but also angry for not having won after such a performance“.

Como played a full thirty minutes with numerical superiority: “We lacked better management in that part of the match. In the last twenty minutes it became a game to manage, but we are very young and we always want to attack. We lacked a bit of maturity, but it’s part of the growth process“.

On the debutants Butez and Diao: “At the beginning the goalkeeper was a bit nervous, it’s normal also because he’s had two training sessions. I’m satisfied with both him and Diao even though he came on without warming up. He has quality and is dangerous in depth, a feature that we always missed last year.”

The Spanish coach doesn’t hide his concern regarding Nico Paz’s injury: “He has a very swollen ankle, it doesn’t look like a good injury unfortunately.”

Baroni: “We need to get some players back apart from the suspended ones”

Then Marco Baroni: “The team gave everything they had. Let’s move forward on our journey, I have full confidence because in difficult times the boys know how to react, they know how to show off performances where they have given everything. It’s the most important thing. We have to get some players back apart from the suspended ones. Today I brought Noslin to the bench but he was unusable. It’s such a moment, but in times of difficulty the team knows how to react, that’s the most important thing.”

Among the negative things the coach finds some positive aspects: “In difficult times the team demonstrated compactness and solidity. It’s clear that the expulsion penalized us, beyond the numerical difficulties. For my part, it’s more about the fact that the team doesn’t give up, they’re on top of their game, they’ve been able to suffer and give everything. We must continue our path, work, recover players who are important to us and continue to work on the boys to raise their performance level.”

On Dia: “He has always been a starter, every time he has played he has always done well. After the national team he had a small injury, then he had a virus. When the boys go to the national team they go on very long journeys, they expend a lot of energy. A slight decline was normal, but he always provided the performance. He can play up front or even under striker like he does when Taty is there, who is our centre-forward door. Great goal today, shame about the result”.

Lazio’s next matches will be decisive: “It’s time to recover energy and players, we will do it. There’s a long week, I hope to recover Pedro, also to get Noslin back in the best conditions. And then we find the suspended players. Let’s continue with conviction , with determination in our path on what we are building and on what we believe in. With this attitude and this mentality.”
