25-second shock for BVB

Borussia Dortmund fell behind early on against Bayer Leverkusen. Michael Ballack speaks of the worst start imaginable.

25 seconds! Nathan Tella didn’t need any longer to give Bayer Leverkusen a 1-0 lead against Borussia Dortmund. A dream start for the reigning German champions, horror for the weakened BVB.

After a bad pass from Dortmund’s Yan Couto, the ball landed at Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. He headed the ball to Robert Andrich, who didn’t hesitate and headed the ball through to the running Tella. The Nigerian took courage and shot the ball into the top left corner. Gregor Kobel in the Black and Yellow goal was powerless.

Tella outstanding – Kobel no chance

“Bayer Leverkusen is starting this game at high speed,” said DAZN-Commentator Lukas Schonmüller.

Expert Michael Ballack attributed the goal success to the Werkself’s high pressing. “The entire team moved up. Ball intercepted and Tella doesn’t hesitate for long. Outstanding finish, with full confidence in the short corner. Unsustainable,” enthused the 48-year-old.

Dortmund’s defense, which was forced to restructure, had large gaps when they conceded a goal. “This is the worst start for Borussia Dortmund that you can imagine,” said Ballack, assessing the scene.

Big personnel concerns at BVB

Due to numerous absences due to illness, the two youngsters Yannik Lührs and Almugera Kabar started in central defense. And things got even worse for the duo: double packer Patrik Schick gave BVB two more goals a short time later (8th/19th). Jamie Gittens scored the interim goal to make it 1-2 (12th).
