A priori, according to the Mons public prosecutor’s office which took charge of the case, these were dogs raised by families as part of a breeding operation.

According to what we know, the mother tried to come between her son and the dogs but when she was finally able to calm them down, it was already too late. When help arrived, the little boy was already in critical condition. He died on arrival at the hospital.

An investigation into manslaughter has been opened. The prosecution confirms the death of the child but refuses to comment for the moment.

In a state of shock, the mother was only able to be interviewed this Friday morning.

On the community side, arrangements have been made to provide psychological support for the children at the school attended by the victim. “All the thoughts of the Municipal College are with the little victim, her family and her friends.“, David Volant, mayor of Quévy, told us.

As for the dogs, we do not yet know if they will be seized judicially or if the seizure will be administrative.

School in shock

At the École Libre du Sacré-Cœur, located in Givry, where Aodren attended primary school, it was a shock. “We can’t imagine such a tragedy happening in a career“, says Stéphanie Quesne, the director. “It was a big shock when we heard the bad news. A psychological unit was set up by our organizing authority and children or teachers who wished could call on it. It will still be in place for a few days at school and even more time for any student or teacher who feels the need..”

When classes left this Friday, there was consternation among the parents of the students. “It’s a real tragedy“, told us Ornella and Romina whose children attend the same school as Aodren. “We don’t necessarily come to pick up our children after school all the time, but given the circumstances, we said to ourselves that it was better to be there for our children who know Aodren. We will do everything to support them, to answer their questions. The school handled the situation quite well because we were made aware of what had happened very early. They even made phone calls to everyone to be sure to inform all parents of students. On the other hand, we are very afraid that the circumstances of the tragedy have been explained to the children. But at the same time, isn’t it better to be transparent and tell them the truth?

A balloon release

The school also left a message on its Facebook page honoring the little boy: “Aodren was a smiling, kind and helpful child, precious qualities that brightened our days. His joy of life and his generosity marked our hearts and his memory will continue to inhabit our school like a gentle and benevolent light..”

A tribute ceremony will also be organized this Monday, January 13 at 1:30 p.m. within the establishment. “During this ceremony, the children will release balloons accompanied by little words that they have written, so that their thoughts reach Aodren. This moment of contemplation will be marked with gentleness and respect, a way for everyone to celebrate their memory and show our affection..”
