Landscaping companies hope to fill gaps in treating roads

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – It’s a race against the clock for Knox County Public Works and landscaping companies across East Tennessee, as snow is on the way.

“We take care of several HOAs, several neighborhoods, private drives, companies. Anyone who’s needing any kind of ice preparation, we’re there,” said Barry Arnold with Jones Property Management.

Their crews have been working nonstop to treat neighborhood roads and parking lots. “We’re just trying to get out there and help as much as possible. Try to get some salt down, we’ve also got several plows on standby for when it does hit the ground, so we can get the roadways and parking lots cleared as soon as possible. It’s all so people can keep it moving,” said Arnold.

Knox County road crews are trying to stay ahead of the curve, too.

“Hopefully, the brine solution does prevent roads from freezing. Hopefully, some of those lessons learned from last year help this year,” said Knox County Public Works and Engineering Senior Director Jim Snowden.

Snowden said the high traffic roadways are going to be the top priority for Public Works. The county has listed its road priorities here.

That leaves a lot of gaps that Jones Property Management crews want to fill.

“Anything they’re not clearing, we’re going to try to clear,” said Arnold.
