Invited on the set of TF1, Thursday January 9, the leader of the Socialist Party called for a suspension of the postponement of the retirement age and for a transition to a new system.
The future of the pension system is being played out in Bercy. For several days, political parties have been calling for a suspension of the extension of the legal age from 62 to 64, promulgated by the government of Élisabeth Borne. The Socialist Party is no exception to the rule. Invited on the TF1 set, Thursday January 9, Olivier Faure called for this suspension and a transition to a new system.
To cushion the shock that this could represent, the leader of the Socialist Party proposed a solution: call on the Retirement Reserve Fund (FRR). “The Pension Reserve Fund can make the connection“, the time to turn to a new system, he defended.
30 billion euros deficit in case of repeal
The FRR’s mission is to invest on behalf of the community the sums entrusted to it by the public authorities with a view to participating in the financing of pensions. Since 2011, it has also helped to finance the accumulated deficits of Social Security, by paying more than 2 billion euros each year to the Social Debt Amortization Fund (Cades).
If the FRR can be called to the rescue to finance the pension system, nothing indicates that it has sufficient resources. If Olivier Faure assured that a suspension of the reform would not be equivalent to a “dry repeal”, the government is not as confident. According to the executive’s estimates, a suspension would increase the system deficit from more than 15 billion euros in 2032 to… more than 30 billion.
-Invited to the franceinfo microphone, Friday January 10, the leader of the socialist senators, Patrick Kanner, also pleaded for “suspension or equivalent“of the pension reform the time to open new negotiations with”political groups, unions and employers.” “This six-month negotiation could begin very quickly and, during that time, we are asking for a suspension or the equivalent of a suspension”, he detailed.
