After just 2 minutes the final score was already on the scoreboard. Beerschot nevertheless had chances to cancel out Jan-Carlo Simic’s early goal, but Anderlecht shuddered to the semi-finals in a weak second half. It will compete against Antwerp next week.
Beerschot-Anderlecht in a nutshell:
-
Key moment:
Anderlecht starts sharply and celebrates after just 2 minutes. Simic is in the right place to get a rebound. It would turn out to be the only goal of the match.
-
Man of the Match
A goal and a clean sheet: Simic will take home the Man of the Match trophy anyway. Edozie also shone before half time, but went down after the break.
-
Remarkable:
None of the top teams were surprised in the quarter-finals of the Croky Cup. So we get wonderful posters in the semi-final: Club Brugge-Genk and Antwerp-Anderlecht.
Club Brugge, Genk and Antwerp had already cycled to the semi-finals on cruise control, so Anderlecht also wanted to leave no stone unturned tonight.
Not that that was possible on the patched field in Beerschot – a sandpit in front of Shinton spoke volumes. But the Purple & White didn’t care and immediately attacked, eager to make it an old-fashioned cup evening.
It resulted in a corner kick after 20 seconds and a minute later also a free kick around the home team’s box. Shinton initially had a parade in the second stationary phase on a buffalo shot from Luis Vazquez, but he had no chance on Jan-Carlo Simic’s rebound.
Dream start for Anderlecht, who then controlled the difficult field. Shinton and Coosemans both had to take action before halftime, but the Brussels team never gave up big chances.
Anderlecht in its shell
Was that a bit different after the break? Beerschot immediately demanded the leather, Anderlecht crawled into his shell. And yet in the second half there was still the greatest opportunity for Anderlecht. Dreyer kicked Shinton far too weakly.
Then the home team started pounding harder and harder. Under the leadership of captain Verlinden, the 1-1 was increasingly in the air. But let’s be honest: Beerschot’s heavy pressure never became completely concrete.
Long shots were blocked, decisive passes were just off target. Well into the end, that is. Leander Dendoncker had to head away a good placed ball, and Coosemans also kept his team upright two minutes later.
-Anderlecht offered very little in return for 40 minutes, but were allowed to advance to the semi-finals. A double confrontation with Antwerp awaits there.
End!
Anderlecht may not fully deserve it after a particularly lackluster second half, but they are in the semi-finals of the cup! An early goal from Simic proved to be enough, but in the second half the ranks remained closed despite the pounding from Beerschot. A double clash with Antwerp awaits the people of Brussels.
Almost all players camp in Anderlecht’s 16, but the home team lacks inspiration and good decisions. Verlinden opts for a low ball, wasn’t a measured cross a much better option?
Amuzu and Edozie also spare Beerschot for a while. Amuzu can serve his buddy at the far post, but the bump pass is too far. Beerschot gets 2 minutes left!
Dolberg te nonchalant
Dolberg scored the decisive goal after a gift at Beerschot. The Dane turns into the box and thinks for a moment, the only thing he can come up with is a lame place ball. That will blow over.
Coosemans keeps Anderlecht straight!
Wow, Coosemans keeps Anderlecht straight here in extra time! Keita nods through, Kosiah scores the equalizer from close range. Coosemans wants nothing to do with it and throws himself in front of the ball and the striker. Great save, in collaboration with Dendoncker.
Dendoncker heads away!
Al Sahafi squeezes beautifully past Edozie and reaches the back line. He looks up, sees Henderson and neatly lays back. He scores in one go, luckily for Anderlecht Dendoncker throws his head in front of it. Verlinden’s cross that follows almost blows in. It stays warm in the 16!
Phew, yet another Brussels appearance in Shinton’s box. Dolberg narrowly passes under Hazard’s high ball. This could easily be the decision. Anderlecht still have to hold on for just over 5 minutes.
Finally Kuyt’s men use their 2 weapons in the front. Plat sends a cross towards Keita, who cannot put enough force backwards.
No, Anderlecht’s game really doesn’t seem to be going anywhere in this second half. Counters keep going wrong, a wild shot from Vazquez is the first “bright spot” in a long time.
Fayed hard wide
Fayed makes himself noticed when he comes on as a substitute. Just now he was the author of the deep pass towards Al Sahafi, now he takes the ball himself. His shot deflects.
A rare breakout from Anderlecht is played out far too sloppily. The home team still smells blood. Verlinden in particular is the largest predator at Beerschot, although its bees always die on Brussels legs.
Coosemans defuses a through ball
Beerschot comes out of nowhere looking extremely dangerous! Fayed sends the lightning-fast Al Sahafi towards Coosemans, the keeper gets to the ball just in time to dismantle the situation. The beginning of a final offensive?
