Real Madrid and Barcelona to Contest Their Tenth Supercup Final, Third Consecutive Meeting

Real Madrid and Barcelona will meet next Sunday in the Saudi city of Jeddah for the tenth final in the history of the Supercup, marking their third consecutive clash in this competition. The record favors the whites, who have claimed seven titles in their head-to-head matchups against Barcelona’s two.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side will compete for the title after defeating Mallorca 3-0 in the semifinal, while Barcelona overcame Athletic Club with a 2-0 victory in their matchup on Wednesday.

In the overall history of the competition, Barcelona has a slight edge with fourteen titles compared to Real Madrid’s thirteen. A victory for Ancelotti’s team would level the trophy count.

Their first encounter dates back to 1988, where Real Madrid emerged victorious. They also lifted the Supercup in 1990, 1993, 1997, 2012, and 2017, in two-legged finals. The title has swung in favor of Barcelona in 2011 under this format.

Since the competition format was changed in 2020 to include four participants with a single-match final, the two giants of Spanish football have clashed twice.

The 2023 clash went to Barcelona, with a 3-1 win, while last year’s final was taken by the whites in a comprehensive 4-1 revenge.
