“Cheat and scandal”… Spanish politics enters the line of Olmo’s registration | sports

The crisis in Barcelona’s registration of the duo Dani Olmo and Victor is still generating a lot of ink in Spain, and it seems that it has gone beyond the sporting aspect and turned into a political issue.

A Spanish politician accused his country’s Supreme Sports Council of favoring Barcelona after the latter agreed to grant the Catalan club a temporary precautionary measure that would allow it to re-register Olmo and Victor.

Borja Simper, spokesman for the Popular Party (from the opposition), used his account on the X platform to criticize the decision, according to the Catalan newspaper Sport.

“This decision taken by the Supreme Sports Council violates the rules and standards of the Spanish Federation and La Liga,” Simper wrote.

Simper went further by adding, “This decision is considered favoritism towards Barcelona and cheating. I highly doubt that such a move would have been given to a smaller club.”

Simper republished the words of a Spanish journalist who dealt with a case similar to what happened with Olmo in the past, in which the Frenchman Nabil Fekir, the former player for Real Betis, was the victim, when the Andalusian club was forced to sell him to the Emirati club Al Jazira due to the issue of financial fair play.

Journalist Albert Ortega wrote via X, “In Mercato last summer (2024), Real Betis was forced to sell Nabil Fekir, one of its best players, to balance its financial numbers, and now Betis sees the Supreme Council for Sports violating the law. It is a scandal.”

Barcelona and its German coach Hansi Flick will be able to rely on Olmo in the final match of the Spanish Super Cup scheduled to be held next Sunday at King Abdullah City Stadium (the Radiant Jewel) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Barcelona reached the final after its victory yesterday in the semi-finals over Athletic Bilbao (2-0). The goals were scored by Gavi and Lamine Jamal during both halves of the match, which Olmo missed.

In the closing scene, Barcelona awaits the winner of the second semi-final, which will bring together Real Madrid, champion of the Spanish League, and its counterpart, Real Mallorca, runner-up of the Spanish Cup.poison the past.
