the sign for Place de la -Cadet ashore

For several weeks now, the sign pointing to Place de la -Cadet in Vouneuil-sous-Biard has been on the ground. A somewhat surprising posture for such a panel. Accident, vandalism or otherwise, it seems that history is repeating itself for this cross. Indeed, Christian Chaigneaud, president of the Vouneuil association over time, tells us that such a mishap, known to some former Vouneuil residents, had already happened to him many years ago.

This cross was at the crossroads of the roads leading to (D3) via La Grand’Vallée and to -le-Comte (D87). It was located in the corner opposite the current water reservoir of the town. In the 1940s, there was a wood merchant in the village of Vouneuil who was helped in his work by a member of his family. To bring in the wood they had felled, they regularly passed in front of this cross, the loaded cart. Each time, the helper had a habit of whipping this cross, the strap(s) wrapped around it. His boss kept telling him: “ She’s going to take revenge on this cross, we don’t play with that, we don’t do things like that! »

This lasted for a while, but one fine day the cross was decapitated. She fell on him, fracturing both of his legs. He would then have dragged on his illness for a very long time and would never have been able to work as he did before. Faced with such a story, we can only hope that such a mishap does not happen again. The knocking down of such a sign by a hypothetical person responsible does not deserve such a sentence for the latter. However, we often admit that history is a perpetual beginning again!
