Today: Watch for spots of fog this morning. It won’t be widespread, but with frigid temperatures in place, it could result in a few slick spots if it gets thick enough. Otherwise, count on a dry and cold day. Sunshine early will make way for clouds as our next winter storm system approaches.

FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY TONIGHT INTO FRIDAY: While light snow could develop west of the St. Louis metro area earlier in the evening, snow chances ramp up in the metro after 10PM tonight.

Snow Friday morning will impact the commute with fresh slick spots developing overnight. We expect the snow to taper off to flurries in the midday and afternoon.

Our snowfall accumulation forecasts range from 2-4″ across most of our area, including St. Louis. The majority of our viewing area is under a Winter Weather Advisory from this evening through tomorrow afternoon, but that advisory has been bumped up to a Winter Storm Warning in Reynolds and Iron counties (the southern tip of our viewing area) where 3-5″ is possible.

No wintery mix is expected with this system — just snow. And thankfully, no strong winds are in the forecast. Our biggest concern is the timing of the snow with likely impacts for the Friday morning commute.

After Friday’s snow wraps up, we’ll be dry over the weekend with some melting — especially on Sunday with a high in the upper 30s. But some of this snow will stick into next week as temperatures turn colder. We’ll have several days with highs below freezing.
