West Virginia Snowstorm: 8 Inches Expected in Tucker County, High Winds Overnight

Eastern Tucker County, WV – A winter storm is set to deliver up to 8 inches of snow by Thursday noon, prompting warnings for dangerous conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pittsburgh issued the alert late Wednesday night, forecasting additional snow accumulations between 4 and 8 inches, with the highest totals in elevated areas. Winds are expected to gust up to 40 mph, causing blowing snow and dangerous wind chills as low as 10 to 15 below zero in higher terrain.

According to the NWS, these hazardous conditions will likely create slippery roads, particularly during Thursday morning commutes. Gusty winds could also lead to falling branches, exacerbating risks for drivers and pedestrians. Officials urged residents to avoid extended exposure to the cold to prevent hypothermia.

The storm will impact the Eastern Tucker region, including the communities of Canaan Valley, Davis, and Thomas. Residents should prepare for possible power outages due to strong winds and falling branches.

Local authorities recommend staying indoors and limiting travel during peak storm hours. The NWS advises reporting snow or ice accumulations by calling 412-262-1988 or contacting them via Twitter at @NWSPittsburgh.

This severe weather system will persist through Thursday morning, gradually diminishing by midday. Residents should monitor updates from the NWS and take necessary precautions.

Plan ahead and ensure your safety by having winter essentials ready, including warm clothing, food supplies, and backup power sources.
