The ceremony is often presented as “the antechamber of the Oscars”. Or a “stepping stone” towards the most prestigious cinema awards ceremony. If the Golden Globes deserve these nicknames, the winners of their 82nd edition, unveiled on the night of Sunday to Monday, portend a shower of trophies for French films on March 2. Because during this evening organized by the foreign press association in Hollywood, three French productions or co-productions shone: “Emilia Perez” by Jacques Audiard, “The Substance” by Coralie Fargeat and “Flow, the cat who had no longer afraid of water” by Gints Zilbalodis.
The first won four trophies. A musical comedy in Spanish about the transition of a Mexican drug trafficker, the breathtaking “Emilia Perez” was the favorite with ten nominations, compared to seven for the American drama “The Brutalist” by Brady Corbet. Audiard's tenth feature film won the award for best comedy or musical film, the award for best foreign language film, the award for best supporting actress for Zoe Saldana and the award for best song for Camille and Clément Ducol.
