Is FSR 4 only compatible with AMD Radeon RX 9070?

Big announcements from CES are expected this evening for AMD and in the night for NVIDIA, with in particular the new generations of graphics cards of each, respectively baptized Radeon RX 9000 and GeForce RTX 50. But that's not all because these 2025-style graphics cards should also be accompanied by new generations of scaling for each manufacturer: the FSR 4 from AMD and DLSS 4 from NVIDIA.

VideoCardz apparently managed, as is often the case, to get its hands on AMD's official presentation without having to submit to any non-disclosure contract. Among the data that they are distiling, one piece of information concerning the future FSR 4 will undoubtedly generate more buzz if it were to be confirmed: the FSR 4 would not be compatible, according to AMD itself. even, that with the Radeon RX 9070 :

The recent AMD Radeon RX 7000 should therefore have to be satisfied with FSR 3.1 in the future, while the Radeon RX 9070 et RX 9070 XT would for their part have access to this famous FSR 4 on games compatible with the new version of the technology. The big novelty of FSR 4 will be the addition of AI to further optimize AMD's upscaling solution, similar to what NVIDIA already does with its DLSS. As such, many Radeon RX 7000 owners must have hoped to be entitled to the flavor of the FSR 4 since their graphics cards are equipped with what AMD calls “AI Accelerators” in their architecture, something that the Radeon RX 6000 didn't have. However, and if we are to believe this image extract which according to our colleagues comes directly from AMD, only two new cards based on the RDNA 4 architecture and its new generation of AI accelerators more undoubtedly efficient could ultimately make the new technology work.

Another question arises: why only specify “RX 9070 Series” when other versions of RDNA 4 graphics cards should be launched? We are talking about RX 9060, 9050 and 9040. We can either adopt a wary approach and the possibility that AMD does not really allow the use of its FSR 4 on less powerful versions, or just say that it is perhaps this is the sign that AMD is only going to launch the Radeon RX 9070 this evening and has produced a “present” presentation, with the only cards at the time of launch which will be at even to exploit FSR 4. As for games, according to VideoCardz Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 would be officially confirmed as FSR 4 compatible. Information which is not really information since we have known for a long time that he would be in the starting blocks for the arrival of FSR 4. It will remain to be seen whether he will be alone or accompanied during the officialization which should be made this evening!
