Nylon Manja: Police raid two shops, seize 52 bundles of nylon manja | Pune News

Pune: Fifty bundles of nylon manja worth Rs10,000 were seized from a shop in Upper Indiranagar and two bundles costing Rs1,600 from a store in Dhanori in separate raids conducted by the Bibvewadi and the Vishrantwadi police, respectively, on Sunday.
Sale and production of nylon manja is banned in Maharashtra as per directives of the Bombay high court. The manja causes severe injuries to two-wheeler riders and deaths have also been reported in some cases.
Meanwhile, the two police stations registered separate cases against the shopkeepers related to disobedience of orders issued by public servants .
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Nikhil Pingale told TOI, “We have undertaken a special drive. Local crime branch and police station officials are required to visit shops which may be stocking nylon manja.”
“We will register cases against the shopkeepers for selling the item, which is dangerous to people’s lives at large. We won’t tolerate such nuisance in the city,” he added.
