Pierre Niney, César winner in 2015 for his performance in “Yves Saint Laurent”, revealed the character he would have loved to embody… and it's quite astonishing!
At 35, Pierre Niney already has a busy career with memorable roles, including the most recent, The Count of Monte Cristo. The film has attracted more than 9 million admissions in France, becoming the second biggest success of the year 2024 behind Un p'tit truc en plus and its 10.8 million admissions.
The dream role of Pierre Niney
Despite a filmography with many excellent roles such as Black Box, Goliath, Yves Saint Laurent or The Promise of Dawn, Pierre Niney always has in his mind this character that he would love to embody. Questioned by Gala, the Caesarized actor revealed the role that made him dream.
It's a very anxiety-inducing and horrible film but in any case, I love this character.
“Night Call with Jake Gyllenhaal“immediately confides the actor, sure of his fact. “It’s a very anxiety-inducing and horrible film but in any case, I love this character. I would have loved to play a role like that, a total sociopath”continues Pierre Niney.
“There's not really a point of empathy with him, which is very rare in a film, to really be in the first person with someone who's not doing well and has a sense of morality which really leaves something to be desired. I really like this film.”concludes the actor.
In a slightly more “nice” register, Pierre Niney also reveals that he would have loved to play in Le Goût des autres by Agnès Jaoui. “One of the most beautiful roles of Jean-Pierre Bacri“he emphasizes. “I would also have liked to star in a movie with Jim Carrey. I have a particular tenderness for the metaphysical emotion that emanates from this artist”explains the actor.
A very dark character
As a reminder, Night Call was released in theaters in November 2014. Jake Gyllenhaal plays the character of Lou. Connected to police radio frequencies, he travels around Los Angeles at night looking for shocking images which he sells at a high price to local TV channels. For him, the race for the spectacular will have no limits.
Rated 4.1 out of 5 by AlloCiné spectators, the film is one of the best feature films with Jake Gyllenhaal, ahead of Prisoners by Denis Villeneuve. Concerning Pierre Niney, we will find him in 2026 in a new collaboration with the filmmaker Yann Gozlan, after An Ideal Man and Black Box.
This time, the two artists will work on Gourou, the precise release date of which is not yet known. This work, which promises to be very dark, promises to be “an unprecedented dive into the world of coaching, through the toxic rise of a personal development 'guru'.”
