A start to the year marked by a new cold snap

Twenty-two departments are on alert for snow and freezing rain this Saturday evening. From Orne to Bas-Rhin, via , we have barely exceeded zero degrees in a good part of the country. So no time to waste in Senlis (Oise) to secure the main roads. The TF1 20H teams assisted in the preparation of the motorway network operator's vehicles for snow and ice. All the salt spreaders on the motorway network in the north of are mobilized. Around fifty machines which will crisscross the highways all night.

Near Marcoussis, in Essonne, the machines were already at work in the afternoon to salt the roads, prevent ice and prevent the snow from sticking to the ground. On the road, 300 kg of salt were spread by Jean-Paul and his teams, whom we followed in the video at the top of this article. Their goal: to avoid accidents caused by freezing rain, like the one which took place a few hours earlier in Corrèze on the A89 motorway (near Combressol) following a heavy goods vehicle leaving the road. Caution was therefore required all day in Côte d'Or, on the return from vacation. “We're going to take it easy to make sure we get home properly and whole.“, promised a motorist.

Strict precautions for motorists in the departments concerned

Traffic was heavy all day. But what worried motorists the most was the deterioration of weather conditions in the evening. Snow tires, chains, nothing was too much in anticipation of the drop in the thermometer. “We also provided blankets for the car with the children. So we're still preparing for a bit of difficult traffic.” confided another user.

In too, the ice invited itself to the party. Christopher hadn't planned to sleep there after his niece's birthday. “We plan a little more for those who stay asleep following the freezing rains“, he assured us, his hands full of sleeping bags and blankets.
