Beware of freezing rain on the A89 motorway, between Tulle (Corrèze) and Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme). A series of accidents occurred on the morning of Saturday January 4.

The guardrail was not enough to stop a heavy goods vehicle which found itself across the road. Due to freezing rain, the driver was unable to brake. Since the morning of Saturday January 4, on the section of the A89, between Tulle (Corrèze) and Clermont-Ferrand (Puy-de-Dôme), there have been five accidents in series, around Maussac (Corrèze) and Combressol ( Correze).

In total, two heavy goods vehicles, four cars damaged and a fire truck hit during an intervention. These accidents, the result of freezing rain, did not cause serious injuries, but one road user was transported to hospital in relative emergency.

“The thing to know about freezing rain is that the amount is not particularly important. Sometimes it only takes one or two millimeters, an hour or two hours of freezing rain to make freezing conditions very difficult traffic”explains a meteorologist.
