Chris Dobey is the first semi-finalist
For the first time in his career, Chris Dobey was able to qualify for the semi-finals. Over the past two years, the 34-year-old Englishman has always reached the quarter-finals, but now Dobey will deal with ex-world champion Gerwyn Price in this phase.
Price, however, got off to a strong start: he won the first two sets. But Dobey took over and the Welshman had to use all the tricks in his box to stay alive. When Dobey missed some match darts in the 7th set, Price’s tactics seemed to work. He belted out another Ally Pally while Dobey dropped off for the break.
But the lion’s roar was only an illusion. Price was no longer able to claw at the board, so Dobey was still able to finish. Final score: 5-3.
In the semi-finals, Dobey may play against his cousin Callan Rydz. He will have to beat Michael van Gerwen later today.
