With the arrival of the year 2025 also resonates the last full year of this first municipal mandate of the team that I have the honor of leading since 2020. When I look in the rearview mirror, and I see everything that was imagined, developed, brought to fruition in the historic center as well as in the neighborhoods and hamlets for the better living together of Villefranchoises and Villefranchois, I measure the progress made.
Also, through these few words of good wishes addressed to all of our fellow citizens at the start of 2025, I want to talk to you about success.
Success in terms of better possible visibility for our bastide. Thanks of course to the filming of the production of the Netflix series “All the light we cannot see” and Julie Gayet’s TV film “Olympe, une femme dans la revolution” which will be broadcast on the public television service this spring. Without forgetting, last fall the arrival of photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand as part of his photo project “France and those who live in France”.
The support we have provided, and the extensions we have been able to give, have meant that the attractiveness of our city has taken a positive step forward.
Success again with the return of commercial brands and public services as we had committed to.
Success also with the improvement of the living environment, rewarded by maintaining the 3 flowers classification, the highest regional distinction of this quality of life label. This improvement in the living environment is reflected in particular by ventilation and urban improvements in the historic center, such as the development of the Parc des Augustins. Note also that there are more and more investments in bastide towns.
Always successful by having decided to highlight a very big highlight each year: in 2021 with the Bastibus, in 2022 with the Manufacture media library, in 2023 with the Young Citizens' House and in 2024 with the police station municipal.
Success finally with the creation of a real roads service. This allows us to carry out road safety work in neighborhoods, most often at the request of residents. We are also improving accessibility for people with reduced mobility or the visually impaired in order to make our city as inclusive as possible.
-All our services are mobilized and motivated, both for small daily jobs and for major achievements, such as the beautification of Place de la République, hailed as a great success by the population.
Our line of conduct, based on proximity to our fellow citizens, has resulted in a strong participatory commitment. During this year 2025, with my team, as we did at the end of 2023, I will come back to you by rescheduling neighborhood meetings, instigating exchanges which in my eyes represent the best means of exchange between elected officials and residents. We will come to meet you during unfiltered meetings during which everyone will express themselves as they wish. For our part, we will report on the progress of the requests. A moment that we will expand on specific themes depending on current events, as was done in June 2024 for Avenue Caylet or for the Teulières district, in particular.
This type of direct link approach must establish itself as our priority and the marker of the end of this first mandate in terms of participatory democracy alongside the important work of volunteer neighborhood representatives whom I would like to thank.
This year 2025 will be marked by the inauguration of the police headquarters, the launch of the flagship site at Place Fontanges, the continuation of ventilation in the city center and the installation of public services.
A dynamic punctuated by cultural support around the programming of the Théâtre des bastides, summer events and throughout the year, strong relationships with the associative fabric and sports clubs. We will also continue to work for the most vulnerable, thanks to the creation of a network of volunteer visitors for the elderly. As you can see, we have work to do and we are looking beyond this pivotal year by continuing to lay the foundations for our common future. At the start of 2025, I would once again like to wish you all a very happy new year despite the external circumstances.
Let's be proud to be Villefranchois!
