Djokovic Seeks Family Boost in Pursuit of Australian Glory

Can family time propel Novak Djokovic to new heights in Australia?

The Serbian tennis sensation is on the hunt for his 100th tour-level title in Brisbane this week, setting his sights firmly on clinching a record-extending 11th Australian Open title, along with his 25th Grand Slam trophy in Melbourne later this January.

This time, Djokovic is accompanied by his wife, Jelena, and their children, Stefan and Tara, enhancing his journey Down Under.

“It’s the first time my family has come with me to Australia – my wife and kids,” Djokovic shared. “On match days, I’m focused on my preparations while she looks after the children. Having her here gives me the love and energy I need to perform at my peak. Right now, everything is clicking. I feel fantastic on the court, and my game is strong. It eases the guilt of being away from them for so long. Knowing they’ll be waiting for me when I return home makes things so much more manageable. I’m feeling more motivated, calmer, and I cherish the quality time we spend together. It allows me to step away from the tennis obsession and relax with my family.”

On the court, Djokovic is off to a strong start in the new season, notching up his second win by defeating Gael Monfils, which propels him into the quarter-finals in Brisbane. This win extends his dominance over the Frenchman, now boasting a 20-0 lead in their Lexus ATP Head2Head encounters.

“Gael’s style is a good matchup for me. The more wins you rack up against someone, the more you look forward to those matches,” Djokovic reflected. “We’ve had our share of epic battles. I recall a few instances where he was just a point away from victory. In Dubai a couple of years back, he had match points and could have taken that win. It’s tough; mentally, those experiences can weigh you down.”

“However, credit is due to him for maintaining such a high level of play at this stage of his career. He’s incredibly athletic, a kind soul beloved by many. His charisma makes him a brilliant entertainer,” he added appreciatively.

After his triumph over Monfils, Djokovic delighted onlookers with his signature violin celebration. The world number one revealed that the choice of celebration is decided by his children.

“My kids suggested different celebrations for my victories. My daughter loves the violin celebration, while my son wants me to play the saxophone, so I try to blend both styles in my celebrations,” he said with a grin.

Looking ahead, Djokovic faces Reilly Opelka in the quarter-finals on Friday, aiming to once again revel in a victory in front of his family’s cheering support.
