On the evening of January 1, we know more about the profile of the attacker who knocked down dozens of people in New Orleans on December 31. He is an American citizen whose identity was revealed by the FBI. His accomplices are probably at large.
-New Orleans (United States) is in mourning and the investigation is still in its early stages. Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, an American citizen, is the man behind the attack according to the FBI. He sped down Bourbon Street in a white pickup truck with Texas plates. “An Islamic State flag was found on the trailer of the vehicle. The FBI is seeking to determine the subject's potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations.”says FBI Special Agent Alethea Duncan.
The police speak of a man fiercely determined to wreak carnage. “Weapons and potential improvised explosive devices were found in the suspect’s vehicle. Other devices of the same type were also found in the French Quarter”adds Alethea Duncan. The AP agency indicates that explosives linked to the attack were allegedly planted by three men and a woman.
Was there a security breach? Bourbon Street was invaded by a dense crowd as if the lane was reserved for pedestrians, but according to several witnesses, no protective device intended to prevent the passage of a vehicle had been put in place. The city recommends that residents avoid the security perimeter.
