Eliesse Ben Seghir: “My Father, the Lions of the Atlas, the Ballon d’Or, and Me”

In a recent interview, young Lions of the Atlas striker Eliesse Ben Seghir opened up about his career, his ties to Morocco and the Lions of the Atlas, as well as his future aspirations. There’s a significant revelation as well.

Eliesse Ben Seghir is among the most promising young footballers making waves right now. With AS Monaco, where he has already scored five goals and provided three assists this season, the young Lion of the Atlas is enjoying himself and thriving. “I am a player who loves to entertain, who enjoys dribbling, creating passes, scoring goals, and also bringing my teammates into the game,” he described himself in a recent interview on TF1’s Telefoot.

For him, is more than just a profession. “For me, it remains a passion, even though it is my job. It was a childhood dream to become a professional, and today, I have succeeded. I am very proud and very happy,” said the young prodigy, before promising with both feet on the ground and filled with ambition, that “this is just the beginning of something great.”

The Lions of the Atlas striker dreams of winning “the Champions League with Monaco, or the Ligue 1 title. These are the titles that make you dream.” And what about the Ballon d’Or? “Yes, of course. I think it is a dream that everyone has in mind. Some are afraid to say it or think about it, but not me,” he confidently emphasized.

But in addition to this “childhood dream”, Ben Seghir admits that he “also dreams of more collective trophies such as an Africa Cup of Nations with my country, or a World Cup.”

The interview also touched on his decision to choose Morocco after representing all youth categories for . The player’s response was straightforward: “When the Morocco A team calls you, especially the coach who calls you several times to talk about the selection and explain how things work, it was an obvious choice for me.”

He also added that wearing the green and red jersey is a tribute to his deceased father: “I think about him all the time every time I wear the jersey.”

Lastly, we learn for the first time that before joining AS Monaco, Ben Seghir was, in his own words, “two fingers” away from signing with Olympique de Marseille. But “when AS Monaco calls you, it’s hard to refuse,” he explained, adding that his family had a “huge impact on this choice” which he “does not regret today.”
