The Limburg fire brigades were called out several times during the night from New Year’s Eve to burning piles of cardboard, fire pits or paper containers. A garden house went up in flames in Lanaken just after midnight.
It is not clear whether the garden house caught fire due to a stray flare. In no time, the wooden building of a house in Strodorp in Veldwezelt was on fire.

The hedge also caught fire. The fire brigade quickly had the situation under control.
Paper containers
Around 12:30 am, a paper container of about 23 m³ was on fire at the skate park in Borgloon.

Such a paper container was also on fire at Grote-Heide in Pelt. The fire brigade had to empty it completely and put it out to extinguish the fire.
The fire brigade was also called out for smaller fires involving piles of paper and cardboard that were along the street and that had caught fire.
The hedge at the youth center in Koersel caught fire. This was also quickly extinguished by the fire brigade.
