A New Year’s Day parkrun event has been cancelled amid a weather warning for wind tomorrow.
Holkham parkrun, on the Holkham Hall estate, was due to hold a free, timed 5k event – in addition to its weekly Saturday ones – tomorrow.
But organisers have now said the park will open late tomorrow due to the wind gusts which are forecast heading into the morning.
“As a result, we’ll be unable to hold out New Year’s event,” a post on the Holkham parkrun Facebook page said this afternoon.
“Please help us spread the word to avoid unnecessary travel in bad weather.
“We’re sorry for the disappointment but safety must come first.
“Thanks to everyone who offered to volunteer and we’ll see you on Saturday, when we will also hold our postponed Bring One Thing collection. Stay safe!”
It comes as a yellow weather alert for wind has been issued for Norfolk tomorrow, running between 12.15am and 3pm, and warning of “very strong winds” of up to 75mph.
At the time of writing, King’s Lynn parkrun is still set to hold its New Year’s Day parkrun tomorrow.
