Frank and Hurzeler disagree on ‘fair result’ as Brentford hold Brighton

Both Thomas Frank and Fabian Hurzeler felt their teams could have claimed victory as Brentford battled to a goalless draw at Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday.

The Bees secured just their second away point of the Premier League season at the Amex Stadium, suffocating the Brighton attack to claim a hard-earned draw.

A share of the spoils means more frustration for Frank’s opposite number Hurzeler, as Brighton have now failed to win in their last six league games, and they were prevented from scoring at home for just the second time this season.

Despite the sensation of the result being a point gained for Brentford, based on their poor away form, Frank indicated at full-time that he felt his team could have secured victory.

“I never play for one point in any game, but sometimes you have to look into the circumstances,” he told Amazon Prime Video.

“They had some chances in the first half, but not clear-cut. I think we were really on top in the second half. We just missed that clear-cut final pass in attack.

“Our front four have a lot of pace and ability going forward, but I must demand a bit more to win games like this. It was not disappointing, I just wanted a little more.

“It was a fair result. I never wanted to settle for a draw, but I thought today was a good point on the road.”

Frank’s view was not echoed by his opposite number, with Hurzeler claiming Brighton deserved victory despite their 24 shots only totalling 1.24 expected goals (xG).

“It’s tough that we didn’t finish the game as winners. We have to learn how to create chances and finish them. We didn’t create enough chances in the second half,” he said.

“Sometimes football is not fair, and I think we deserved more today. I’m glad the players could have a big impact and I’m happy with how they played.”

The game is Brentford’s final outing of 2024, as they prepare to host Arsenal on New Year’s Day, with Brighton next in action away at Aston Villa on December 30.
