BOSTON — The Philadelphia 76ers walked away with a big-time 118-114 win over the Boston Celtics on Christmas Day as they made a statement on the road. It was by far the most impressive win of the season for Philadelphia as it creeps back into the playoff picture in the East.
Sixers forward Caleb Martin had himself a huge night going for a season-high 23 points while knocking down a career-high seven triples on nine attempts. Entering the contest, Martin had made only 18 3s on the season, but he is a noted Celtics killer. He shot 44% from deep in the 2024 playoffs against Boston and 48.9% from deep in the 2023 Eastern Conference finals against them.
Still, the Celtics decided not to focus on him as they revealed a questionable game plan after the loss.
It is confusing to know the Celtics decided to willingly keep Martin open in this one when considering the success he’s had against them in the past. In Boston’s defense, it does have to focus on Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George as well, but Martin is the one who goes after them on a regular basis.
