The collision took place a little after 3 a.m. on the night of December 24 to 25, 2024. A 35-year-old woman, thrown from her vehicle, died before help arrived. Four other people were injured. Two witnesses, shocked, were taken care of by emergency services.

The Gard firefighters intervened during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday for an accident which occurred on the A9 motorway at 3:09 a.m. Two light vehicles and a 19-tonne heavy goods vehicle traveling empty were involved. At least one of the vehicles was traveling at high speed. The precise reasons for the accident are not known at this stage. An investigation has been opened by the gendarmerie, it will have to determine the exact circumstances.
The firefighters explained on Wednesday morning that they arrived quickly and noticed a “dramatic human toll”. A 35-year-old woman died before their arrival, after being ejected from her vehicle and struck.
Three members of the same family were in the second car involved. They are three men aged 17, 2 and 41. They were taken care of by rescue teams and transported to the Carémeau Hospital Center in Nîmes.
A 30-year-old man, driving a heavy goods vehicle which was traveling empty, was treated on site before being transported to Nîmes hospital. Finally, two people witnessed the accident: a 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman. Shocked, they were also taken to hospital.
The accident involving two cars occurred on the A9 motorway in the town of Milhaud between the Nîmes Ouest (n°25) and Gallargues (n°26) interchanges, towards Spain. It led to a total interruption of traffic in the sector for all vehicles heading towards Montpellier, Peprignan and Spain, according to the operator Vinci Autoroutes. A little after 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the operator announced the opening of a traffic lane.
The National Interministerial Road Safety Observatory calls for caution during the holidays, recalling that each year, the number of road deaths increases significantly during the holidays. “Accident rates are higher during the holiday season, particularly due to alcohol consumption before hitting the road again, on foot, by bike, on a motorized two-wheeler or by car”specifies the Observatory.
