A “stressed” Massachusetts Amazon delivery driver abandoned about 80 packages in a wooded area, Lakeville, Mass., police said.
At about 2 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, Lakeville Police Sgt. Shawn Robert noticed abandoned items in a wooded area, police said in a statement. Roberts investigated the scene and found three large totes filled with Amazon packages.
Police officers loaded the totes onto a pickup truck and performed an inventory at the Lakeville Police Department. After counting over 80 packages, they contacted a local Amazon distribution center in Middleborough, Mass., to return them. There were no reports of packages being lost or stolen in the area.

“I would like to commend Sgt. Shawn Robert for his discovery of these unattended packages while on routine patrol,” Lakeville Police Chief Matthew Perkins said on Monday, Dec. 23. “Sgt. Robert likely saved a Christmas headache for many local residents by noticing these totes and getting them back to Amazon, hopefully in time for a holiday delivery.”
In a second statement on Monday, Dec. 23, an Amazon driver arrived at the department to report that they were the person who left the packages by the side of the road at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, “because they were stressed,” police said.

Police are not seeking criminal charges against the driver, who was not publicly identified. The driver plans to report the incident to their manager, police said.
“I am proud of the way our Lakeville Police officers handled and investigated this matter,” Perkins said in the update. “At this time, we are not seeking criminal charges and are considering this a human resources matter for Amazon.”
