sexuality education, clash of knowledge… What awaits Élisabeth Borne

During the transfer of power, Tuesday December 24, Anne Genetet highlighted this to Élisabeth Borne, new Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research: the relational life education program , emotional and sexual (Evars) is “ essential to educate our youth in respect and equality », « education which must be assumed by the school and by the parents, and not by pornographic sites ». And « major issue “, which Anne Genetet assured to leave in ” a form that I worked on so that it is not subject to any criticism and can be applied. »

“It’s time” that the education program for emotional, relational and sexual life is effective, said Aurore Bergé, new minister responsible for equality between women and men, on Tuesday morning. Speaking on RTL, Aurore Bergé said she had “spoke last night (Monday evening, Editor’s note) with Élisabeth Borne » the new Minister of National Education, Higher Education and Research, and assured that this subject would be “obviously a priority”.

The “particularly keen” concern of the Family Union

Sex education in schools, middle and high schools, has been compulsory since 2001, with at least three sessions per year, but this provision is, in fact, little respected. Initially planned for the 2024 school year, the first program currently being written was to be presented on December 12 to the Higher Education Council with a view to publication for the next school year. But this meeting was canceled after censorship from the Barnier government.

In November, Alexandre Portier, then minister responsible for academic success, declared that this draft program was not “as it stands, not acceptable”. For its part, the General Secretariat of Catholic Education had expressed its “ serious reservations », asking that the program take better account “the uniqueness of children” and recognize “the primary responsibility of parents on these subjects”.

The Family Union (ex-Manif pour tous) expressed its concern on December 24 “ particularly lively with regard to Élisabeth Borne since the new Minister of National Education will be required in the coming weeks to decide on the proposed emotional, relational and sexual education program, which has caused a lot of ink to flow and sparked a broad revolt, particularly among families. »

« Élisabeth Borne has not, to my knowledge, taken a position on this subject of sex education at school, acknowledges with The Cross Ludovine de La Rochère, president of the family union. But his political sensitivity and his left-wing convictions are known. However, we know that part of the left is very favorable to this program, and we can fear that to please a certain number of people in its political family, it will let it pass as is. »

“Not a second of grace”

Furthermore, the new Minister of National Education, sixth in this position in two years, is expected firmly by the teaching unions on the question of the cancellation of the so-called reform of “shock of knowledge” initiated by Gabriel Attal (when Élisabeth Borne was at Matignon). The teachers' representatives are also waiting for her to reconsider the elimination of 4,000 positions which had been planned by the outgoing government of Michel Barnier.

The former prime minister, who is also minister of higher education and research, “will not have a second of grace” in a “school on the brink” warned Sophie Vénétitay, general secretary of SNES-FSU, the main secondary education union, recalling that “ Élisabeth Borne is the first minister of pension reform against which teachers have massively mobilized, she is also the one who worn and abused from 49.3. »
