Macaulay Culkin is Santa for Kim Kardashian’s ‘Santa Baby’ music video

It’s unclear if Kim Kardashian is trying to get her music career back on track, but the reality principessa released a music video for a new cover she recorded with Travis Barker of “Santa Baby.”

Well, assuming you could call it a music video. It’s more like a lo-fi online stunt video described as a “film” directed by Nadia Lee Cohen and Charlie Denis. There’s even an appearance by pop culture Christmas staple Macaulay Culkin, the star of holiday movie classics Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New Yorkwho pops in as Santa Claus holding a camcorder.

It’s hard to discern what’s going on exactly. There’s a lot! The cover song itself — recorded by Kardashian and produced by Barker — is severely downplayed. It’s all about how the celebrity dons a blond wig and crawls around on all fours from room to room of a one-level home, while the camera repeatedly gets right up close with her backside.

Meanwhile, two guys wrestle each other, Kylie Jenner dresses as the Virgin Mary, half-naked women play the game Twister, some guy dresses as Jesus Christ, some other guy gets his head shaved in the bathroom, and more general debauchery goes down as the music video (comprised of a single five-minute-long tracking shot) makes its way through the space.

Whether subconsciously or not, it calls up Kardashian’s music debut in 2011 with “Jam (Turn It Up),” which she called “one thing in life that I wish I didn’t do” in an interview a few years later. “I don’t like it when people kind of dabble into things they shouldn’t be. And that I don’t think I should have,” she said. “Like, what gave me the right to think I could be a singer? Like, I don’t have a good voice.”

Apparently, holiday music is a different field.

Kardashian is also flexing her acting chops to the continued chagrin of Patti LuPone. She starred in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror: Delicate (Culkin also has that AHS connection) and will continue that partnership with Murphy into the show All’s Fair.
