MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WBMA) — Congressional authorization for replacement of stolen Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have officially expired.
The expiration was effective Saturday, December 21.
The State of Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR) said the the replacement of the benefits was limited to thefts occurring between October 1, 2022 and December 20, 2024.

The department said it cannot process affidavits with thefts occurring on or after Saturday, December 21. It will continue to process affidavits of theft for incidents that occurred on or prior to December 20, 2024 from households impacted by EBT card skimming, cloning, and similar fraud.
The department said reports regarding these thefts must be submitted to county DHR offices within 30 days of the date the client discovered the fraud.
All reports of skimming, cloning, or similar fraud will require confirmation from the client verifying that all information reported in the request is true and correct.
The department said clients may be contacted regarding their request and clients who purposefully give false information may be prosecuted.
