shooting in Aumale: the person injured by bullet is stabilized and would be a collateral victim

The person shot Sunday evening near the Aumale metro station in Anderlecht is in stable condition. It is likely that he was a collateral victim in this shooting which cost the life of a 28-year-old man, the Brussels prosecutor's office said on Monday.

The gunshots occurred in the rue de Sébastopol, near a café not far from the Aumale metro station.

A patrol in the Brussels-Midi area was alerted on Sunday around 8:50 p.m. by two passers-by shortly after the attack. The police discovered two victims at the scene with gunshot wounds, one of them seriously. Witnesses were trying to resuscitate her when the police arrived, the public prosecutor said. The 28-year-old man, however, died from his injuries.

The second victim was taken to hospital. “His condition is currently stable and his life is not in danger.“, the prosecution said on Monday. “According to the first elements of the investigation, it seems that the injured victim is probably a collateral victim.”

The federal police laboratory, a forensic doctor and a ballistic expert were dispatched to the scene. The public prosecutor opened an investigation into murder and attempted murder and appointed an investigating judge. Shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting. The weapon would be of the Kalashnikov type, according to initial information. “The alleged perpetrator(s) are currently being sought. The investigation is ongoing and the motive remains unknown at this stage. All avenues are explored“, concluded the prosecution. The latter adds that, in the interest of the investigation, no additional information will be communicated.
