“I’m better”… The real Mbappé is back, can we get excited?

The year 2024 is coming to an end and Kylian Mbappé's doubts seem to be flying away with it. The French striker confirmed his rise in power by delivering a remarkable performance with Real Madrid against Sevilla FC on Sunday (4-2). Not only by opening the score with what stands out as his new signature move – the big full-axis shot from mid-distance – and by delivering a decisive pass for Brahim Diaz, but by rediscovering the influence that we knew from him in its preferential areas of the land. The former Parisian could have come out of the match with one or two more assists if his teammates had been more skillful in front of goal.

The most important thing is elsewhere. Gone are the matches crossed like a ghost and saved by a “tap-in” on a misunderstanding, the forced and miserably missed gestures, the calls for the ball out of time, the feeling of a man completely lost on the field. Mbappé seems to have found his place and his rhythm in the Merengue machine. He is, for example, much better alongside Jude Bellingham, whose game he now benefits from. “My adaptation is finished,” confirms the Frenchman on the Real Madrid channel. I now feel very good in this team. We know each other better with my partners, I play better with them and it shows that I have been better for several matches. »

In Bilbao, Mbappé “hit rock bottom”

He does not deny the bad days and takes his share of responsibility for his past misfortune. The sequence of missed penalties in Liverpool but especially Bilbao had the effect of a bucket of ice water thrown in his face. “I think the match in Bilbao helped me because I had hit rock bottom. It made me realize that I had to give my all for this jersey and play with personality. » Here he finally arrived where he wanted to be. And history will perhaps remember that Mbappé found his level where he had left it two years earlier: one December evening at Lusail Stadium.
